Hello

I'm Simon! My wife and I have two boys, and creating joyful family memories is what I love the most. I'm happiest in the Skye mountains or when I'm out on adventures with my camera. I've been a firefighter, crewed a lifeboat, and I'm currently a HM Coastguard Rescue Officer in North Skye.

My artistic photography has been well-published Internationally, and focuses on using the historic wet plate collodion process, invented in 1851.

I'm just finishing up making my second feature-length documentary and so, it's time to open the books to new clients here in Skye for weddings and elopement photography.

You'll find me to be relaxed, friendly, creative and trustworthy.

Recently featured on BBC Scotland Landward and previously on BBC Creatives.

My Story

So!  A bit more about me... I specialise in analogue and alternative forms of photography, this is my passion (but don't worry, your wedding photography will be in high resolution digital format!)  Currently, I'm immersed in practising the art of Victorian wet plate photography, invented in 1851, by Frederick Scott-Archer.   Wet plate is all about the process, it is incredibly difficult and technical, you have to accept the fact that there is a high possibility of not being able to produce a plate, but this is not failure, I see it as progress!  When that plate you've been trying for finally clears in the chemicals, and it's of the quality you're happy with, the feeling is extremely rewarding!

I became an artist in 2016, travelling through various analogue and darkroom disciplines.  In 2021 I won a global wedding award for my natural portraiture, I also worked closely with Channel 4 on the set of SAS: Who Dares Wins.  In 2022 I was named as one of the top 29 wet plate collodion artists as curated in Analogue Forever Magazine by Shane Balkowitsch.

Living on the Isle of Skye, I'm currently editing my 'Peak Perseverance' documentary, which is all about my early wet plate work featuring a project I called 'Mental Collodion', the film then moves off into the Cuillin Mountain where I shoot various  landscapes also using collodion,

I've just finished my second commission with the Spirit of the Highlands initiative which saw me travel the coastlines of Skye with my large-format camera to make portraits of people within their landscapes which will have a permanent exhibition at Inverness Castle when it re-opens in 2025.

My work has been well-published over the years; read more here.
